Political Dishonesty

San Luis Obispo County sheriff's hopeful Ian Parkinson was asked at a recent political forum his thoughts on this site's extraordinary, widely viewed video, 'The Hart Locker.' The video showed SLO deputies trampling on the Second and Fourth Amendments, raiding a locked gun safe without a warrant, confiscating licensed weapons, and filing bogus felony charges against an innocent man.

In opening scene of video at right, Deputy Darren Murphy, who led the band of lawbreaking deputies during that 2008 incident, is on the job in September as a bailiff in Superior Court, Paso Robles.

Parkinson's forum answer regarding the incident reflected the nonsense being voiced by sheriff's mouthpiece Rob Bryn, who emptily claims that viewers are neither seeing nor hearing what they really are. Parkinson, in his forum response, failed to address the simple question of his level of concern for protecting ordinary citizen's rights.

COMMENTARY

Expecting candor from Sheriff Ian?

It’s often what a political candidate doesn’t say that is important. Even through sheriff’s candidate Ian Parkinson prevailed in his battle against Joe Cortez, he still hasn’t realistically discussed the reprehensible actions of some deputies in a notorious 2008 event involving a man named Matt Hart.

In this look at one response of Parkinson’s during a voters’ forum, Parkinson showed how well he can feint, dodge, and avoid. His forthrightness -- or lack of same -- will be a key indicator of what his stewardship of the office will be like.
